Veṅkaṭeśa-Māhātmya: Varāha Prelude, Descent of Śeṣācala, Svāmipuṣkariṇī and the Network of Tīrthas
with Dāna-Lakṣaṇas
Lord Vishnu (traditionally instructing Garuda; the verse addresses 'Devi' as a devotional/illustrative address within the narration)
Concept: Darshana of a sanctified Vishnu-form in Kali-yuga is rare and grants great bhagya; the murti is to be revered as non-different from Lakshmi-Narayana.
Vedantic Theme: Saguna-brahman upasana; arcavatara (deity-in-icon) as a valid locus of divine presence; abheda-bhava toward the murti.
Application: Cultivate devotion through darshana and worship of Vishnu icons; treat the murti with the same reverence as the deity, and seek such darshana as a spiritual priority in Kali-yuga.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.26.67-70 (rarity of dana, shravana, snana at Candratirtha; Varaha-salagrama dana)
This verse states that the form called Dadhivāmana—associated with the Moon—is exceptionally auspicious and, when obtained or beheld, grants great fortune, being regarded as equivalent to Lakṣmī-Nārāyaṇa.
It emphasizes that in Kali Yuga truly elevating divine encounters are rare; therefore, sincere devotion to recognized sacred forms (mūrtis) is presented as a powerful, accessible means to receive grace and auspicious results.
Approach temple worship and sacred images with reverence, consistency, and ethical living; treat authentic darśana and devotional discipline as a rare opportunity for inner purification and well-being.
