यो वा उद्यन्तं नामर्तुं वेद । उद्यतीमुद्यतीमेवाप्रियस्य भ्रातृव्यस्य श्रियमा दत्ते । एष वा उद्यन्न्नामर्तुर्यदजः पञ्चौदनः । निरेवाप्रियस्य भ्रातृव्यस्य श्रियं दहति भवत्यात्मना। यो३जं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
yó vā́ udyántaṃ nā́ma ṛtúṃ véda | udyatī́m udyatīm evā́priyasya bhrā́tṛvyasya śríyam ā́ datte | eṣá vā́ udyán nā́ma ṛtúr yád ajáḥ pañcáudanáḥ | nír evā́priyasya bhrā́tṛvyasya śríyaṃ dahati bhávāty ātmánā | yó ’jáṃ pañcáudanáṃ dákṣiṇā-jyótiṣaṃ dádāti
Whoso, verily, knoweth by name the season called Udyant, he draweth unto himself—yea, the very Udyatī— the splendour of the unfriendly rival. This, verily, is the season Udyant, to wit, the goat with the fivefold rice-porridge. He burneth clean away the rival’s splendour and maketh it his own, even he who bestoweth the goat and the fivefold porridge, made luminous by the priestly fee.
Quien, en verdad, conoce por su nombre la estación (ṛtu) llamada Udyant, atrae hacia sí —sí, a la misma Udyatī— el esplendor (śrī) del rival hostil (bhrātṛvya). En verdad, ésta es la estación Udyant: el macho cabrío con la gachas de arroz en cinco porciones (pañcaudana). Él quema por completo el esplendor del rival hostil y lo hace suyo —quien ofrece (dadāti) el macho cabrío con pañcaudana, luminoso como don ritual (dakṣiṇā-jyotis).
