bhūmilābhaṃ śatrukarśanaṃ pratāpaṃ ca hi prāpnoti

Territorial gain, enemy attrition (weakening), and increased royal power/prestige—i.e., expansion serves both material and psychological-coercive ends.
Prestige functions as deterrence and bargaining leverage, reducing future resistance and increasing compliance among neighbors and subjects.
