FAQs

This verse imparts vamsha-vidya (dynastic/genealogical knowledge): it records descent and the branching of lineages—Haihaya clans and related peoples (Bhoja, Avanti)—used for Purāṇic historiography and royal lineage mapping.

By cataloging kings, tribes, and regional lineages, it functions like an index of ancient political geography and dynastic history—one of the Agni Purāṇa’s encyclopedic strands alongside ritual, polity, and other sciences.

Preserving and reciting sacred genealogies is treated in Purāṇic tradition as smṛti-sādhana: it supports dharma by honoring ancestral lines and maintaining continuity of righteous kingship (rāja-dharma) through remembered lineage.
