Lord Agni (traditional narrator of the Agni Purana) addressing Bhārgava

Related Themes: Agni Purana 260 (Mantra-kalpa / homa sequence)
It prescribes a specific mantra-prayoga supported by homa-dravyas: mustard oil/seed oblations performed with a fierce (krodha) ritual disposition, followed by offerings of akṣata, sesame, curd, milk, darbha, dūrvā, bilva, and lotus.
Beyond narrative theology, it catalogs actionable ritual technology—how mantras are operationalized through precise materials and ritual bhāva—illustrating the Agni Purana’s practical compendium style across worship, rites, and applied religious procedure.
By pairing mantra with correctly specified oblations and ritual intent, the rite is presented as a means to effect targeted results through Agni (fire) as the consecrating medium, aligning action (karma) with mantra and offering for efficacious outcomes.
