El gato y el gallo son, por lo común, domésticos; y, sin embargo, esas mismas clases se hallan también vagando por el bosque. Con todo, el conocimiento que los distingue surge invariablemente de la diferencia de sus formas (rasgos observables).

Application: In taxonomy, omen-reading, and practical life, verify identity by marks/shape/behavior, not by habitat label alone.

FAQs

It teaches a knowledge-method: correct identification (vijñāna) arises from rūpa-bheda—distinguishing observable characteristics—rather than merely from habitat labels like “village” or “forest.”

By presenting a general rule of classification and cognition using everyday examples (animals and habitat), it models how diverse subjects can be organized and known through defining marks (lakṣaṇas), a hallmark of the text’s encyclopedic style.

Cultivating clear discrimination (viveka) reduces error and confusion; in dharmic life this supports right judgment and right action, which are foundational for wholesome karma.
