FAQs

It classifies specific forms of vinoda (recreation)—physical feats (jumping from heights), social rites with festivity (vivāha), and performing arts (gīta and tantrī-vādya), including swing-riding—as recognized categories of entertainment.

By cataloging everyday cultural practices—music, instruments, ceremonies, and leisure activities—alongside religious and technical subjects, it shows the Agni Purana’s broad documentation of social life and arts as part of its encyclopedic scope.

The verse primarily functions as a descriptive classification of permissible/known recreations; its implied takeaway is moderation and cultural refinement—engaging in socially sanctioned festivities and arts without transgressing dharma.
