This verse imparts vamśa-vidyā (genealogical knowledge): it identifies key progenitors (Druhyu, Anu, Puru) and situates Vasudeva as foremost within the Yādava line—useful for Purāṇic historiography and lineage-based sacred narratives.
By preserving structured dynastic data—names, clan affiliations, and prominence rankings—this verse exemplifies the Agni Purana’s encyclopedic function as a reference for Purāṇic history, royal lineages, and the contextual background for later dharma and avatāra narratives.
Remembering and reciting sacred lineages is traditionally held to support smṛti (religious remembrance) and śraddhā (faith), linking devotees to dharmic continuity; it frames revered figures like Vasudeva within a sanctified ancestral order.
