Lord Agni (in discourse to Sage Vasiṣṭha, typical Agni Purāṇa narration frame)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Use the enumerated categories as a checklist for cosmological teaching, inner visualization, and tattva-nyāsa: from prakṛti through mind/intellect to tanmātras, organs of action, and the five gross elements.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Sāṃkhya-Tattva Saṅgraha: Prakṛti to Bhūta-pañcaka","lookup_keywords":["prakṛti","buddhi","manas","tanmātra","karmendriya","bhūta-pañcaka"],"quick_summary":"A compact Sāṃkhya-style enumeration is given: prakṛti and subtle powers, the agent, buddhi and manas, five tanmātras, organs of action, and five gross elements. It serves as a doctrinal map for creation and for reversing creation in yoga."}
Concept: Analytical mapping of experience into tattvas (prakṛti, inner instruments, subtle and gross elements, action faculties) as a basis for cosmology and liberation-practice.
Application: Apply the list for self-inquiry: identify which tattva is active (mind, intellect, sense-impulse, elemental quality) and practice disidentification/withdrawal.

It imparts Sāṅkhya-vidyā: a technical enumeration of core tattvas—Prakṛti, subtle-body power (liṅga-śakti), the agent, buddhi, manas, tanmātras, organs of action, and the five gross elements—used for philosophical analysis and contemplative discrimination.
By systematizing metaphysical categories (tattvas) alongside other disciplines in the text, it demonstrates the Agni Purāṇa’s encyclopedic scope—integrating classical Indian philosophy (Sāṅkhya-style taxonomy) with broader Purāṇic instruction.
Discriminating these tattvas supports viveka (discernment) between the material principle (prakṛti) and the experiencer, reducing misidentification with body-mind and thereby aiding liberation-oriented understanding that refines karma through right knowledge.
