तर्हि धार्मिको ब्राह्मण इति चेत् तन्न । क्षत्रियादयो हिरण्यदातारो बहवः सन्ति । तस्मात् न धार्मिको ब्राह्मण इति ॥८॥

Padapatha (Word Split)

तर्हि । धार्मिकः । ब्राह्मणः । इति । चेत् । तत् । न । क्षत्रिय-आदयः । हिरण्य-दातारः । बहवः । सन्ति । तस्मात् । न । धार्मिकः । ब्राह्मणः । इति ॥८॥

IAST Transliteration

tarhi dhārmiko brāhmaṇa iti cet tan na | kṣatriyādayo hiraṇya-dātāro bahavaḥ santi | tasmāt na dhārmiko brāhmaṇa iti ||8||

Translation

If it be said, “Then the righteous (dhārmika) is the brāhmaṇa,” that is not so. For many, beginning with kṣatriyas, are givers of gold (donors). Therefore, the righteous is not (thereby) the brāhmaṇa.
