Verse 19

Katharudra

ब्रह्मभूतात्मनस्तस्मादेतस्माच्छक्तिमिश्रितात् ।

अपञ्चीकृत आकाशसंभूतो रज्जुसर्पवत् ॥

आकाशाद्वायुसंज्ञस्तु स्पर्शोऽपञ्चीकृतः पुनः ।

वायोरग्निस्तथा चाग्नेराप अद्भ्यो वसुन्धरा ॥

तानि भूतानि सूक्ष्माणि पञ्चीकृत्येश्वरस्तदा ।

तेभ्य एव विसृष्टं तद्ब्रह्माण्डादि शिवेन ह ॥

ब्रह्माण्डस्योदरे देवा दानवा यक्षकिन्नराः ।

मनुष्याः पशुपक्ष्याद्यास्तत्तत्कर्मानुसारतः ॥

ब्रह्म-भूत-आत्मनः । तस्मात् । एतस्मात् । शक्तिः-मिश्रितात् ।

अपञ्चीकृतः । आकाशः-सम्भूतः । रज्जु-सर्प-वत् ॥

आकाशात् । वायु-संज्ञः । तु । स्पर्शः । अपञ्चीकृतः । पुनः ।

वायोः । अग्निः । तथा । च । अग्नेः । आपः । अद्भ्यः । वसुन्धरा ॥

तानि । भूतानि । सूक्ष्माणि । पञ्चीकृत्य । ईश्वरः । तदा ।

तेभ्यः । एव । विसृष्टम् । तत् । ब्रह्माण्ड-आदि । शिवेन । ह ॥

ब्रह्माण्डस्य । उदरे । देवाः । दानवाः । यक्ष-किन्नराः ।

मनुष्याः । पशु-पक्षि-आद्याः । तत्-तत्-कर्म-अनुसारतः ॥

brahmabhūtātmanas tasmād etasmāc chakti-miśritāt |

apañcīkṛta ākāśa-sambhūto rajju-sarpavat ||

ākāśād vāyu-saṃjñas tu sparśo’pañcīkṛtaḥ punaḥ |

vāyor agnis tathā cāgner āpa adbhyō vasundharā ||

tāni bhūtāni sūkṣmāṇi pañcīkṛtyeśvaras tadā |

tebhya eva visṛṣṭaṃ tad brahmāṇḍādi śivena ha ||

brahmāṇḍasyodare devā dānavā yakṣa-kinnarāḥ |

manuṣyāḥ paśu-pakṣy-ādyās tat-tat-karma-anusarataḥ ||

From that Self which has become Brahman, from this principle mingled with Power (śakti), the unquintuplicated ether arises—like a rope mistaken for a snake. From ether, again, the unquintuplicated touch, called air, arises; from air, fire; from fire, waters; from waters, earth. Then the Lord, having quintuplicated those subtle elements, projects from them this universe, beginning with the cosmic egg (brahmāṇḍa), by Śiva. In the womb of the cosmic egg are gods, demons, yakṣas and kinnaras, humans, and animals and birds and the like, according to their respective actions (karma).
