yastatpūjayate bhaktyā śayane bodhane hareḥ | upavāsaparo bhūtvā sa gacchedvaiṣṇavaṃ padam
Whoever worships that Lord with devotion at the time of Hari’s reclining and awakening, and who is devoted to fasting, attains the supreme Vaiṣṇava abode.
Sūta (contextual continuation)
Tirtha: Jalaśāyī-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Śaunaka and the Naimiṣāraṇya sages (implied)
Scene: Devotees fasting, holding tulasī and lamps, worshiping Viṣṇu at two ritual moments: the ceremonial ‘putting to sleep’ (śayana) and ‘awakening’ (bodhana), with temple priests performing ārati.
Bhakti joined with disciplined observance (fasting) is presented as a direct path to the Lord’s highest state.
The tīrtha of Jalaśāyī Hari introduced in the preceding verse; the benefit is linked to worship there/then.
Worship at Hari’s ‘reclining’ and ‘awakening’ observances, coupled with upavāsa (fasting).
