Day after day he bathed, applying sacred ash (vibhūti), and worshipped the liṅga at the three times of day. He perceived no difference between the Śiva-liṅga and his guru.
Śiva (continuing the narrative addressed to Aparṇā)
Scene: Vasiṣṭha, ash-marked, performs worship to a Śiva-liṅga three times a day; in a parallel visual, the guru stands beside the liṅga with identical reverence, showing abheda-bhāva.
True Śaiva devotion sees the guru and Śiva as one in essence, expressed through steady daily worship.
The chapter’s Kāśī setting (Hara-pāpa-hrada milieu) as the ground for rigorous Śaiva sādhanā.
Daily bathing with vibhūti observance and trikāla liṅga-arcana (worship three times daily).
