Types of Bhasma and the Method of Wearing Tripuṇḍra
अकारो गार्हपत्याग्निर्भूधर्मश्च रजोगुणः । ऋग्वेदश्च क्रियाशक्तिः प्रातःसवनमेव च
akāro gārhapatyāgnirbhūdharmaśca rajoguṇaḥ | ṛgvedaśca kriyāśaktiḥ prātaḥsavanameva ca
The syllable “A” is the Gārhapatya (householder’s) sacred fire; it is the earth-principle and the quality of rajas. It is also the Ṛgveda, the power of action (kriyā-śakti), and the morning Soma-pressing (prātaḥ-savana).

It teaches that the primal sound “A” (as part of Oṁ) pervades ritual, cosmos, and inner discipline—linking sacred fire, the earth principle, rajas (dynamic activity), Vedic revelation, and kriyā-śakti—so the devotee sees Shiva’s order (śiva-tattva) reflected in both outer worship and inner transformation.
By identifying akāra with the Gārhapatya fire and morning rite, the text frames Saguna worship as sanctified action: offerings, lamp/fire, and daily pūjā become expressions of Shiva’s śakti. Linga worship is thus not merely symbolic—it is a disciplined alignment of sound (mantra) and act (kriyā) offered to Shiva.
Begin morning worship with Oṁ (akāra as its ground), light a lamp or maintain a pure household fire as a devotional analogue, and perform japa with attentive, action-oriented discipline (kriyā-śakti)—offering all activity to Shiva as worship.
