तन्मुखञ्च तथा यो वै पश्यतिप्रीतिमान्नरः । तीर्थजन्यं फलं तस्य भवतीति सुनिश्चितम्
tanmukhañca tathā yo vai paśyatiprītimānnaraḥ | tīrthajanyaṃ phalaṃ tasya bhavatīti suniścitam
Whoever, with a heart filled with devotion, beholds that sacred Countenance—of Viśveśvara—certainly attains the merit born of pilgrimage; of this there is no doubt.

Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: Darśana of Viśveśvara/Viśvanātha is proclaimed to yield tīrtha-born merit; Kāśī is treated as a self-sanctifying field where sight itself becomes pilgrimage.
Significance: Bhāva-yukta darśana (seeing with prīti/bhakti) is equated with tīrtha-phala, emphasizing inner disposition over mere travel.
It teaches that Shiva’s grace flows through devotional darśana: seeing the Lord with prīti (loving reverence) yields the same purifying merit as pilgrimage, emphasizing bhakti as a direct means to upliftment.
The verse highlights Saguna-upāsanā—approaching Shiva in a worshipable, perceivable form. Darśana of the Lord (including Linga-darśana) becomes a vehicle of tīrtha-phala when done with devotion.
Practice devotional darśana with inner joy—visit a Shiva shrine or Linga, take focused sight (dhyāna through the eyes), and pair it with japa of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to deepen prīti.
