Pārthiva-pratimā Pūjā-vidhāna — Procedure for Worship of an Earthen Icon
परभागस्तु देवानां दिवा युक्तः प्रशस्यते । उदयव्यापिनी ग्राह्या मध्याह्ने यदि सा तिथिः
parabhāgastu devānāṃ divā yuktaḥ praśasyate | udayavyāpinī grāhyā madhyāhne yadi sā tithiḥ
For the devas, the latter portion of the time—when joined with daylight—is praised as auspicious. If the tithi extends through sunrise, that tithi should be accepted; likewise, if it is present at midday, it is to be taken as valid for the rite.
Suta Goswami (narrating traditional ritual/time-determination rules to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Offering: dipa
It teaches that devotion must be joined with dharma—worship is strengthened when performed at the properly ascertained sacred time (tithi), aligning the devotee’s act with cosmic order.
Linga-puja and vrata observances are traditionally tied to tithi; this verse gives a practical rule—accept the tithi that persists at sunrise or is present at midday—so Saguna Shiva worship is performed at the ritually valid time.
It suggests careful tithi-selection for vrata/puja: prioritize the udayavyāpinī tithi (spanning sunrise) and also accept the tithi present at midday when scheduling worship, japa, and offerings.
