स्थावरं जंगमं जीवं सर्वं संतोष्य यत्नतः । सुवर्णपूरिते श्वभ्रे नवरत्नैश्च पूरिते
sthāvaraṃ jaṃgamaṃ jīvaṃ sarvaṃ saṃtoṣya yatnataḥ | suvarṇapūrite śvabhre navaratnaiśca pūrite
Having diligently satisfied every living being—both the immobile and the mobile—one should prepare a pit filled with gold, and also filled with the nine precious gems (navaratna).

The verse links Shaiva merit to universal compassion: pleasing all beings (sthāvara and jaṅgama) purifies karma, and generous, sattvic gifting becomes an outer expression of inner surrender to Pati (Lord Shiva), supporting spiritual upliftment.
In the Vidyeshvara context, Linga worship is not isolated ritualism; it is completed by dharma—non-harm, care for life, and charity. Offerings like gold and gems are presented as devotional supports to Saguna Shiva worship, when grounded in compassion rather than pride.
A practical takeaway is to combine Shiva worship with dana: first satisfy beings through feeding/helping, then perform a sanctified offering (as described) while remembering Shiva with the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” maintaining humility and purity of intention.
