Vāyu said: “O brāhmaṇas, skilled in the art of inquiry, you have asked this question in the proper manner. This very matter was once asked of me before, and my grandsire (Brahmā) explained it to me.”
Vayu
Tattva Level: pashu
Role: teaching
It establishes the authority of the teaching through guru-paramparā: Vāyu affirms that the inquiry is rightly framed and that the answer is rooted in Brahmā’s prior instruction, guiding seekers toward Shaiva understanding of liberation.
Though it does not mention the Liṅga directly, it sets the narrative method typical of the Shiva Purana: correct questioning leads to received doctrine, which later unfolds into Saguna worship practices and the deeper Siddhānta view of Pati (Śiva) as the revealer of truth.
The implied practice is śravaṇa (reverent listening) and disciplined inquiry under an authentic lineage; it prepares the mind for later upadeśa such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and contemplations on Śiva as Pati.
