Account of Sarasvatī’s Manifestation and the Humbling of the Devas
इति वः कथितो विप्रा उमाप्रादुर्भवो मया । यस्य श्रवणमात्रेण परमं पदमश्नुते
iti vaḥ kathito viprā umāprādurbhavo mayā | yasya śravaṇamātreṇa paramaṃ padamaśnute
Thus, O brāhmaṇa sages, I have narrated to you the account of the manifestation of Umā. By merely hearing this, one attains the supreme state—the highest abode of liberation.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Significance: Śravaṇa (devout hearing) of Umā’s prādurbhāva-kathā is declared to yield parama-pada—read as mokṣa through Śiva’s anugraha mediated by śakti-kathā.
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Umā
Role: liberating
It declares the śravaṇa-phala (fruit of hearing): attentive listening to the sacred account of Umā’s manifestation purifies the soul and leads toward the supreme state (parama pada), i.e., liberation under the grace of Shiva and Shakti.
Umā’s manifestation is inseparable from Saguna Shiva devotion, where Shiva is worshipped with His Shakti; such narratives strengthen bhakti and right understanding that the Linga signifies Shiva with His divine power (Śakti), guiding the devotee toward the supreme goal.
The direct practice implied is śravaṇa—regular, reverent hearing/recitation of Shiva Purana kathā (especially Umā-related chapters), ideally alongside mantra-japa such as “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to internalize the teaching and aim for moksha.
