And (one should visit) Kāñcī, and also Tryambaka; the bank of the Godāvarī at Saptagodāvarī; Kālañjara, Prabhāsa, and likewise Badarikāśrama.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Uma-saṃhitā teachings to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Tryambakeśvara
Jyotirlinga: Tryambakeśvara
Sthala Purana: Tryambaka is explicitly named; the kṣetra is famed as the source-region of the Godāvarī and a major liṅga-sthāna where Śiva is worshiped as Tryambakeśvara, drawing pilgrims for purification and ancestral rites.
Significance: Darśana and snāna at Godāvarī/Kuśāvarta are sought for pāpa-kṣaya, pitṛ-kārya support, and Śiva’s grace toward mokṣa-oriented life.
Mantra: tryambakaṃ yajāmahe sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam | urvārukamiva bandhanān mṛtyor mukṣīya mā'mṛtāt ||
Type: mahamrityunjaya
Offering: pushpa
The verse enumerates Śiva-hallowed kṣetras and tīrthas, teaching that contact with such sanctified places—when joined to bhakti and right intention—supports purification of pāśa (bondage) and steady remembrance of Pati (Śiva), aiding the seeker toward mokṣa.
These locations are renowned for Saguna-Śiva worship through the Liṅga and temple presence; the pilgrim is encouraged to approach Śiva in accessible form (arcā/liṅga) while cultivating inner devotion that matures toward realizing Śiva’s transcendent nature.
Undertake tīrtha-yātrā with śaucā (purity), offer water/abhiṣeka at Śiva shrines, and keep japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—as the core inner practice during the journey.
