Procedure for Worship of Vyāsa / the Ācārya
तस्माद्विधानदुक्तं तु शृणुयाद्भक्तितो मुने । पुराणं निगमार्थाढ्यं पुण्यदं हृदयं श्रुतेः
tasmādvidhānaduktaṃ tu śṛṇuyādbhaktito mune | purāṇaṃ nigamārthāḍhyaṃ puṇyadaṃ hṛdayaṃ śruteḥ
Therefore, O sage, one should listen with devotion to this Purāṇa as prescribed. It is rich with the meaning of the Vedas, bestows merit, and is the very heart of revealed scripture.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Śravaṇa ‘with bhakti’ and ‘as prescribed’ is presented as a direct means to puṇya and inner purification; in Siddhānta terms, it prepares the paśu for Śiva’s anugraha by weakening āṇava/karma/māyā bonds (pāśa).
Role: teaching
The verse elevates devotional listening (śravaṇa) to a prescribed spiritual discipline, affirming that the Shiva Purana carries the essence of Śruti and thus purifies the seeker and accrues puṇya while orienting the soul (paśu) toward Pati, Shiva.
By recommending faithful hearing of Shiva’s Purāṇic teaching, it supports Saguna-focused devotion—where the seeker approaches Shiva through accessible forms (such as the Liṅga), guided by scriptural meaning rooted in the Vedas.
Śravaṇa (devotional listening) or pāṭha (recitation) of the Shiva Purana according to proper injunctions; as a practical takeaway, one may combine it with daily Shiva-bhakti such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya).
