श्राद्धकाले मम पितुर्मया पिंडस्समुद्यतः । मत्पिता मम हस्तेन भित्त्वा भूमिमयाचत
śrāddhakāle mama piturmayā piṃḍassamudyataḥ | matpitā mama hastena bhittvā bhūmimayācata
At the time of the śrāddha for my father, I lifted up the piṇḍa (funerary offering). Then my father—breaking through the earth—begged it from my very hand.

Offering: naivedya
It highlights the continuing link between the living and the pitṛs through śrāddha: the piṇḍa is portrayed as real support to the departed, and it underscores dharma (duty) as a purifier that prepares the soul for Shiva’s grace.
In the Shiva Purana’s Shaiva frame, proper śrāddha is a dharmic act that removes obstacles (pāśa) and steadies the devotee for Saguna Shiva worship—especially linga-pūjā—so that devotion and merit mature toward liberation.
Perform śrāddha with reverence—offering piṇḍa and water (tarpaṇa) with purity—and complement it with Shiva-oriented remembrance such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") to sanctify the rite.
