Description of the Power/Effects of Śiva’s Māyā
चन्द्रश्च मोहितश्शम्भोर्मायया कामसंकुलः । गुरुपत्नीं जहाराथ युतस्तेनैव चोद्धृतः

Moon (Candra) too—bewildered by Śambhu’s Māyā and agitated by desire—carried off the wife of his own guru; yet, by that very Lord, he was also restored and delivered.

It shows how even exalted beings can fall under Māyā and kāma (desire), yet Śiva—as Pati (the Lord)—can lift the bound soul (paśu) from pāśa (bondage) through grace, restoring dharma and inner clarity.
The verse highlights Saguna Śiva’s active lordship: He governs Māyā and corrects disorder in the worlds. Linga-worship emphasizes taking refuge in Śiva’s stabilizing presence so the mind is not carried away by desire and delusion.
A practical takeaway is daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a disciplined vow of purity, supported by Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders to restrain kāma and seek Śiva’s grace.
