pāṇigrahaṇamaṃtrāṇāṃ vighraṃ cakre mahātmabhiḥ | yena bhāryyā hṛtā pūrvaṃ kṛtodvāhaḥ parasya vai
He created an obstruction to the hand-taking (marriage) mantras through those great souls—by whom, in former times, the wife of another man, though duly married, had indeed been abducted.

Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Mantra: pāṇigrahaṇamaṃtrāṇāṃ vighraṃ cakre
The verse stresses that sacred rites like pāṇigrahaṇa are not mere social customs but dharmic vows; when violated (such as abducting another’s lawfully wedded wife), divine order manifests as obstacles to restore righteousness—reflecting Shiva as Pati, the guardian of cosmic and moral law.
In Saguna form, Shiva is portrayed as actively safeguarding dharma within worldly life (gṛhastha-āśrama). Linga-worship honors the same Lord as the steady axis of order; this narrative shows that devotion to Shiva is inseparable from ethical restraint and reverence for vows.
It implies performing marriage and other saṁskāras with purity of intent and dharmic conduct; as a Shaiva takeaway, one may steady the mind with the Panchakshara mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and seek Shiva’s grace to remove vighnas while upholding vows and self-control.
