But one who, through the perversion of what ought to be given—driven by his own foolish mind and his own sin—fell into the state of a lizard, was afterwards delivered and raised up by Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

It teaches that adharma in sacred giving (dāna)—done from deluded intellect—creates pāśa (bondage) that can degrade consciousness, yet divine grace can still uplift the fallen when merit awakens and compassion intervenes.
In the Shiva Purana’s devotional framework, ethical purity supports Saguna worship: offerings, vows, and dāna done rightly become auxiliaries to bhakti toward Śiva-liṅga, while corrupt giving becomes an obstacle that must be purified through repentance and renewed devotion.
A practical takeaway is to perform dāna (especially go-dāna or its sincere equivalent) with purity, and to pair it with Shaiva prayer—japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and acts of expiation—so that karmic bondage is softened and grace becomes accessible.
