Upamanyu said: “In a very short time you shall behold Mahādeva—of this there is no doubt. By His grace alone, O supreme person, you will surely see Him.”
Upamanyu
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not a jyotirliṅga origin; it is a guru-like assurance that darśana of Mahādeva occurs soon, explicitly grounded in Śiva’s kṛpā (grace).
Significance: Frames darśana as grace-dependent rather than merely effort-dependent—aligning pilgrimage/darśana with inner eligibility (adhikāra) and Śiva’s anugraha.
The verse emphasizes Shaiva Siddhanta’s central principle that Śiva’s anugraha (grace) is decisive—spiritual attainment culminates in Śiva-darśana not merely by effort, but by the Lord’s compassionate bestowal.
It supports saguna-upāsanā: through devoted worship (often centered on the Śiva-liṅga), the seeker becomes fit for the Lord’s self-revelation, which is ultimately granted by Mahādeva’s grace.
The takeaway is steadfast bhakti with regular Śiva-pūjā and japa—especially the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—performed with humility, seeking darśana as a gift of grace.
