Kṛṣṇādi-Śivabhaktoddhāraṇa & Śiva-māhātmya-varṇana
Deliverance of Krishna and other devotees; Description of Shiva’s Greatness
इत्यष्टौ सुवरान्देहि देवदेव नमोऽस्तु ते । सर्वेश्वरस्त्वमेवासि मत्प्रभुश्च विशेषतः
ityaṣṭau suvarāndehi devadeva namo'stu te | sarveśvarastvamevāsi matprabhuśca viśeṣataḥ
“Thus, O God of gods, please grant me these eight excellent boons. Salutations to You. You alone are the Lord of all; and, in particular, You are my own Master.”
Umā (Pārvatī)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Mantra: namo'stu te
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
It models śaraṇāgati (surrender): the devotee approaches Śiva as Sarveśvara (supreme Lord) and also as the intimate personal Master, indicating that grace—not mere effort—fulfills spiritual aims.
The address “Devadeva” reflects Saguna devotion—worshiping Śiva as the accessible Lord who hears prayers and bestows boons, a mood central to Purāṇic Linga-upāsanā and temple worship.
Offer salutations (namaḥ) with focused bhakti—ideally alongside japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and make requests only after acknowledging Śiva’s lordship and seeking His grace.
