Discourse on Dispassion via the Nārada–Pañcacūḍā Dialogue

Nārada said: “In speaking falsehood, a fault surely arises; in speaking truth, no fault exists. Therefore, understand this well and speak the truth, O fair-waisted one.”

The verse establishes satya (truthfulness) as a foundational dharma: falsehood creates doṣa (spiritual blemish), while truth supports inner purity—an essential qualification for Shaiva sādhanā and grace (anugraha) leading toward liberation.
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana emphasizes śauca and dharma as supports for devotion; speaking truth aligns the devotee’s conduct with Shiva’s order (ṛta/dharma), making pūjā and japa more sattvic and effective for approaching Saguna Shiva with sincerity.
Adopt a satya-vrata (vow of truth) alongside daily Shiva practices such as Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”); truthfulness functions as a niyama that steadies the mind for mantra and meditation.
