उक्तं शिवेति यैर्नाम तथा हरहरेति च । न तेषां नरकाद्भीतिर्यमाद्धि मुनिसत्तम
uktaṃ śiveti yairnāma tathā harahareti ca | na teṣāṃ narakādbhītiryamāddhi munisattama
O best of sages, those who utter the Name “Śiva,” and likewise “Hara-Hara,” have no fear of hell—indeed, they need not fear Yama.
Lord Shiva (teaching within the Umāsaṃhitā discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Establishes nāma-ucchāraṇa (‘Śiva’, ‘Hara Hara’) as a direct fear-dispeller regarding naraka and Yama—functioning as an accessible soteriological practice for all adhikārins.
Mantra: śiveti … harahareti
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It declares the salvific power of Shiva-nāma: sincere remembrance and utterance of “Śiva” or “Hara Hara” invokes the Lord’s grace, dissolving fear of post-death suffering and affirming Shiva as Pati who liberates the bound soul.
Nāma-japa is a direct, accessible form of Saguna devotion: whether one worships the Śiva-liṅga outwardly or holds Shiva inwardly through the Name, the same protective grace is emphasized—devotion becomes the bridge to liberation.
Practice steady japa of “Śiva” or “Hara Hara,” ideally joined with Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), done with purity and devotion; it may be supported by bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa as aids to remembrance.
