mahīṃ gāṃ vā syaṃdanāṃśca gajānaśvāṃśca śobhanān | yaḥ prayacchati pātrāya tasya puṇyaphalaṃ śṛṇu
Listen to the meritorious fruit of one who gives to a worthy recipient land, cows, chariots, and fine elephants and horses.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It teaches that dāna (charitable gifting) done with discernment—especially to a pātra (worthy recipient)—creates puṇya that purifies the pashu (bound soul) and supports progress toward Shiva’s grace and liberation.
In Shaiva practice, outer worship (Linga-pūjā) is strengthened by dharmic living; dāna offered in devotion to Saguna Shiva becomes an auxiliary discipline that refines the devotee’s intent and supports steadiness in worship.
Perform dāna to a worthy person with a Shiva-sankalpa (intention), and accompany it with japa of the Panchakshara—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—as a simple integrating practice.
