śatarudrābhidā ceyamvarṇitā saṃhitā mayā | śatāvatārasatkīrtissarvakāmaphalapradā
Thus have I narrated this Saṃhitā known as the Śatarudra. It proclaims the sacred glory of Śiva’s hundred manifestations and bestows the fruits of all righteous aspirations.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Rudra
Sthala Purana: Colophonic self-identification: Sūta declares he has completed the Śatarudra-saṃhitā, characterized as praise of Śiva’s many manifestations and as granting the fruits of all legitimate desires.
Significance: Positions the entire Śatarudra-saṃhitā as a merit-bestowing ‘kīrti’ (praise) that supports dharmic aims and culminates in higher good; functions as textual tīrtha and vrata-supporting scripture.
Type: stotra
It serves as a phala-shruti: hearing and reverently receiving the praise of Shiva’s many manifestations purifies the devotee and supports dharmic aims, ultimately orienting the mind toward Shiva as Pati (the Lord) who grants grace.
By affirming the glory of Shiva’s manifested forms, it validates Saguna-upasana—devotion through names, forms, and narratives—commonly centered on the Shiva-Linga as the accessible focus through which the formless (Nirguna) is approached.
Shravana and kirtana (listening and recitation) of this Saṃhitā as a vow—especially on Mahashivratri—along with simple Shiva worship (Linga abhisheka, Panchakshara japa ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’, and Tripundra/bhasma observance where appropriate).
