Śiva–Arjuna Yuddha and the Subjugation of Pride (Śiva-parīkṣā)
धन्यं च शंकरं चैव नमस्कृत्य शिवम्मुदा । अवधिं चागतं ज्ञात्वा जयश्चैव भविष्यति
dhanyaṃ ca śaṃkaraṃ caiva namaskṛtya śivammudā | avadhiṃ cāgataṃ jñātvā jayaścaiva bhaviṣyati
Joyfully bowing to blessed Śaṅkara—Śiva Himself—and knowing that the destined limit of the ordeal has arrived, victory indeed shall come to pass.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Mantra: नमः शिवाय (implicit via namaskṛtya śivam; not explicitly quoted)
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
The verse teaches that when one turns to Pati—Śiva—with joyful reverence, the ripening of karma reaches its ordained boundary and Śiva’s grace makes victory (inner and outer) possible.
By emphasizing namaskāra (salutation) to Śiva/Śaṅkara, it supports Saguna worship—such as bowing to the Śiva-liṅga—where devotion and surrender invite Śiva’s protective and victorious presence.
A simple practice is joyful namaskāra to Śiva with remembrance of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), especially at moments of fear or transition, trusting that the ‘limit’ of suffering will pass under Śiva’s grace.
