इत्युक्त्वा नभगस्सोतिदीनधीस्तु कृताञ्जलिः । तुष्टाव तं महेशानं कृष्णदर्शनमानतः
ityuktvā nabhagassotidīnadhīstu kṛtāñjaliḥ | tuṣṭāva taṃ maheśānaṃ kṛṣṇadarśanamānataḥ
Having spoken thus, Nabhaga—his mind uplifted by that vision—joined his palms in reverence and, with head bowed, praised Mahēśāna, the Great Lord, after beholding His dark-hued form.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Purana account to the sages, with the verse describing Nabhaga’s act of praise)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
Offering: pushpa
The verse highlights the Shaiva Siddhanta emphasis on grace received through darśana: when the devotee truly beholds the Lord, the mind becomes clarified and naturally turns to humility (pranāma) and praise (stuti), which ripen devotion and prepare one for liberation.
It reflects Saguna-upāsanā—worship of Shiva with form and qualities—where direct vision or contemplation of the Lord’s manifested form evokes reverence. The same inner response is cultivated in Liṅga worship: approaching Shiva with añjali, bowing, and offering stuti as a doorway to the formless (Nirguna) reality.
A simple practice is indicated: perform añjali and pranāma before Shiva (or the Liṅga), then recite a stuti or the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with focused remembrance of the Lord’s presence, letting devotion arise from the heart.
