Yatinātha-līlā: Śiva’s Test of the Bhilla Devotees at Arbuda Mountain
द्वयमप्युचितं नैव सर्वथा गृहमेधिनः । यद्भावि तद्भवेदेव मया स्थेयं गृहाद्बहिः
dvayamapyucitaṃ naiva sarvathā gṛhamedhinaḥ | yadbhāvi tadbhavedeva mayā stheyaṃ gṛhādbahiḥ
These two courses are never truly fitting for a householder in any circumstance. Whatever is destined will indeed come to pass; therefore, I shall remain outside the home, detached from household entanglements.
Suta Goswami (narrating the teaching within the Shatarudrasaṃhitā context)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Cosmic Event: prārabdha/niyati (destiny) asserted as operative constraint on embodied life
It teaches vairagya (detachment): recognizing the limits of household entanglement and surrendering outcomes to what is destined, one turns inward toward Shiva as Pati (the Liberator) rather than clinging to pasha (bondage).
By advising non-attachment and surrender, the verse supports Linga-worship as a steady focus for the mind: the devotee offers actions and results to Saguna Shiva, gradually loosening karmic bonds and moving toward Shiva’s grace.
Practice mental renunciation: daily japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namah Shivaya”) with a surrendering attitude, and simple Shiva-upasana (lamp, water offering) while remaining inwardly ‘outside the house’—unbound by possessiveness.
