The verse teaches that Śiva, the compassionate Pati (Lord), is moved by genuine love and goodwill arising in beings—devotion that is heartfelt (samprīti) is what truly pleases him and supports the soul’s purification toward moksha.
Linga worship is a Saguna support for approaching the Nirguna-Saguna Śiva; this verse emphasizes that the effectiveness of such worship is measured not by display but by sincere loving intent—offering with prīti is what pleases Śaṅkara.
Cultivate prīti while doing simple daily worship: offer water and bilva to the Śiva-liṅga, apply tripuṇḍra (bhasma), and repeat the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with heartfelt devotion rather than mere routine.
