यदायदा ममाज्ञेयं मतिस्स्याद्गर्वदूषिता । तदातदाऽपनेतव्या त्वयैव परमेश्वर
yadāyadā mamājñeyaṃ matissyādgarvadūṣitā | tadātadā'panetavyā tvayaiva parameśvara
Whenever my understanding grows clouded and my mind is tainted by pride, then at those very times, O Parameśvara, You alone must remove that delusion.
A devotee addressing Lord Shiva (Parameshvara) within the Shatarudra Samhita narration
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Significance: General: prayer for removal of garva (pride) and ajñāna, leading to humility and receptivity to Śiva’s grace.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It expresses śaraṇāgati (surrender): the devotee admits that pride corrupts understanding and prays for Shiva’s grace to remove ajñāna, aligning with Shaiva teaching that liberation arises when Pati (Shiva) severs the bonds of pasha.
In Saguna worship—especially Linga-pūjā—the devotee approaches Shiva as Parameśvara who is accessible through form and ritual, seeking inner purification; the verse frames worship as a means to dissolve ego and restore right knowledge.
A practical takeaway is daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with humility, coupled with brief self-examination to detect garva (ego) and offering it at Shiva’s feet during Linga worship or meditation.
