शिवस्य पञ्चब्रह्मावतारवर्णनम्
Description of Shiva’s Pañcabrahma Avatāras
ब्रह्मणः पुत्रकामस्य ध्यायतो मनसा शिवम् । प्रादुर्भूता महानादा विश्वरूपा सरस्वती
brahmaṇaḥ putrakāmasya dhyāyato manasā śivam | prādurbhūtā mahānādā viśvarūpā sarasvatī
When Brahmā, desiring a son, mentally meditated upon Śiva, Sarasvatī—cosmic in form and resonant with the great primordial sound—manifested before him.

Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Shakti Form: Sarasvatī
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: Manifestation of Vāk-Śakti (Sarasvatī) as ‘Mahānādā’ during Brahmā’s creative intention (putrakāma)
The verse teaches that sincere inner contemplation (mānasa-dhyāna) of Pati (Śiva) becomes a channel for divine śakti to manifest—here as Sarasvatī, the power of knowledge and sacred sound—showing that grace arises from focused devotion and purity of intent.
Although the verse describes mental worship, it aligns with Saguna Śiva-upāsanā: the devotee fixes the mind on Śiva’s auspicious form, and through that concentration, divine powers (śaktis) become present. In Linga worship too, the outer symbol supports the same inner dhyāna that invokes Śiva’s grace.
It emphasizes mānasa-pūjā and dhyāna on Śiva—steady remembrance with one-pointed mind. As a practical takeaway, one may combine meditation with japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") to stabilize awareness and invite auspicious insight (Sarasvatī-tattva).
