बाणासुरस्य शङ्करस्तुतिः तथा युद्धयाचनम् | Bāṇāsura’s Praise of Śiva and Petition for Battle
पतंतु शत्रुहस्ताद्वा पातयन्तु सहस्रधा । एतन्मनोरथं मे हि पूर्णं कुरु महेश्वर
pataṃtu śatruhastādvā pātayantu sahasradhā | etanmanorathaṃ me hi pūrṇaṃ kuru maheśvara
Whether I fall into the enemy’s hands, or whether they strike me down into a thousand pieces—O Maheśvara, fulfill this very wish of mine completely.
A devotee/warrior supplicating Lord Shiva (Maheśvara) within the Yuddhakhaṇḍa narrative
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It expresses śaraṇāgati (total surrender): the devotee accepts any outer outcome—capture or death—while seeking only Shiva’s grace to fulfill the inner spiritual resolve, showing fearlessness grounded in devotion to Pati (Lord Shiva).
The address “Maheśvara” reflects Saguna Shiva approached as the compassionate Lord who grants boons; in Linga-worship this same Lord is invoked as the ever-present refuge, where the devotee prioritizes divine will and grace over bodily security.
Practice mental japa with surrender—especially “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and offer the outcome of all actions to Shiva; the verse supports cultivating inner steadiness (dhairya) and remembrance of Shiva in crisis.
