FAQs

The verse elevates dayā (compassion) and buddhi (discernment) as Shaiva dharma: one protects what is entrusted by Śiva, especially those connected to his Gaṇas, turning duty into devotional service that purifies the soul (paśu) and loosens bondage (pāśa).

In Saguna Śiva worship, devotion is expressed not only in ritual but in protecting and honoring Śiva’s sphere—his Gaṇas and those under his care. Serving Śiva’s attendants is treated as serving Śiva himself, a practical extension of Linga-bhakti.

The immediate practice is mindful dharma: act after vicāra (inner reflection) and cultivate dayā. As a Shaiva takeaway, one may pair this with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) while taking a vow to protect devotees/temple service and avoid harm to Śiva’s community.
