देवपराजयः — शङ्करशरणागमनं स्कन्दकालीयुद्धं च | Devas’ Defeat, Refuge in Śaṅkara, and the Battle of Skanda and Kālī
स्मृत्वा पादौ महेशस्य साम्बिकस्य च षण्मुखः । शस्त्रास्त्राणि गृहीत्वैव चकार रणमुल्बणम्
smṛtvā pādau maheśasya sāmbikasya ca ṣaṇmukhaḥ | śastrāstrāṇi gṛhītvaiva cakāra raṇamulbaṇam
Remembering the lotus-feet of Maheśa and of Sāmbikā, Ṣaṇmukha took up his weapons and divine missiles, and made the battle fiercely tumultuous.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
It shows that even divine heroism is grounded in śaraṇāgati (surrender): Skanda first remembers the feet of Śiva and Śakti, indicating that power and success arise from their grace, not mere force.
Remembering Maheśa’s feet reflects Saguna devotion—personal reverence to Śiva as the compassionate Lord (Pati). In practice, this aligns with approaching the Śiva-liṅga through prayer and remembrance before undertaking any major action.
Begin duties with smaraṇa and namaskāra: mentally bow at Śiva’s feet, then repeat the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to invoke steadiness and divine protection before action.
