raṇe yaḥ kīrtayitvedaṃ praviśettasya sarvadā | mṛtyubhītibhavennaiva vijayī ca bhaviṣyati
Whoever, having recited this, enters the battlefield will never at any time be seized by the fear of death, and he will become victorious.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Bhairava
Significance: Phalaśruti applied to kṣatriya-dharma: recitation before entering danger removes mṛtyu-bhīti (fear of death) and grants jaya (victory), understood as Śiva’s protective grace.
Type: stotra
It teaches that remembrance and recitation of Shiva-centered praise steadies the mind (citta) and dissolves death-fear, granting inner fearlessness that manifests as success even in extreme situations like battle.
The verse emphasizes Saguna-upāsanā—invoking Shiva through audible recitation and praise. In Shiva Purana practice, such kīrtana is commonly paired with Linga-worship, where devotion to Shiva’s manifest form becomes a source of protection and victory.
Regular recitation (japa/kīrtana) of the referenced hymn or Shiva-mantra—especially the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—as a protective discipline before entering danger; it can be supported with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as traditional Shaiva aids.
