देवर्षि-प्रश्नः तथा असुर-वध-हेतुनिवेदनम् | The Devas’ Petition and the Cause for Slaying Asuras
योगयुक्ते मयि तथा योगिन्येव भविष्यति । कामासक्ते मयि तथा कामिन्येव भविष्यति
yogayukte mayi tathā yoginyeva bhaviṣyati | kāmāsakte mayi tathā kāminyeva bhaviṣyati
If her mind is joined to Me through yoga, then she will indeed become a yoginī. And if she is attached to Me with desire, then she will indeed become a passionate lover.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
It teaches that the fruit of approaching Śiva depends on one’s inner bhāva (orientation): yogic absorption elevates one into yogic realization, while desire-bound fixation keeps one in kāma and its binding tendencies. In Shaiva Siddhānta terms, purification of mala and loosening of pāśa occur through right intention and disciplined union with Pati (Śiva).
In Liṅga/Saguṇa worship, the devotee’s approach matters: worship with steadiness, mantra, and inner restraint leads toward yoga and grace, whereas worship driven by worldly craving remains transactional. The verse underscores that Śiva responds according to the devotee’s mode of engagement—transforming the seeker along the line of their chosen bhāva.
Adopt yogic focus in Śiva-upāsanā: japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with dhyāna on the Liṅga, supported by śauca and restraint of desire; applying bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and wearing rudrākṣa can be taken as aids to steadiness and remembrance of Śiva.
