Hospitality to Śiva and the Devas

tvadbhaktiśrutimātreṇa harṣāśrupulakānvitā | tvannindayā bhavenmaunā mṛtyuṃjaya mṛtā iva
O Mṛtyuñjaya, merely by hearing of devotion to You, I am filled with joy—tears well in my eyes and my body thrills with gooseflesh. But when I hear You reviled, I fall silent, as though dead.

It describes the classical marks of mature bhakti toward Pati (Śiva): joyful tears and bodily thrill on hearing His devotion, and a reverent, grief-struck silence when His name is insulted—showing unwavering inner allegiance to Shiva.
The verse highlights devotion centered on Shiva’s manifest, hearable and praisable presence (Saguna)—His names, glories, and devotees. Such śravaṇa (hearing) and kīrtana (praise) naturally support Linga-worship by keeping the mind absorbed in Shiva’s qualities and grace.
A practical takeaway is śravaṇa-kīrtana of Shiva’s names and stories—especially japa of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—cultivating devotional emotion; and maintaining mauna (disciplined silence) rather than engaging in disrespectful speech about Shiva.
