Departure for Śiva’s Darśana
प्रथमं चैव गन्धर्वास्सुन्दरास्सुभगास्तदा । आयाताश्शुभवस्त्राढ्या नानालंकारभूषिताः
prathamaṃ caiva gandharvāssundarāssubhagāstadā | āyātāśśubhavastrāḍhyā nānālaṃkārabhūṣitāḥ
First, the Gandharvas—beautiful and auspicious in appearance—arrived. They were richly clad in fine garments and adorned with many kinds of ornaments.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
The verse highlights the auspicious, orderly gathering of celestial beings around sacred events connected to Shiva and Parvati, suggesting that devotion (bhakti) naturally draws harmonious praise, beauty, and reverent participation in dharmic assemblies.
By depicting honored divine attendants arriving adorned and prepared, the verse mirrors Saguna-Shiva worship where devotees approach with purity, auspicious offerings, and celebratory praise—an outer expression supporting inner reverence toward Shiva’s manifest presence.
It implies upachara-style worship: approaching Shiva with cleanliness and auspiciousness, offering fragrant and beautiful items, and using sacred music/chanting—such as japa of the Panchakshara mantra, “Om Namah Shivaya”—to cultivate a devotional, sattvic atmosphere.
