तत्तपोदर्शनार्थं हि समाजग्मुश्च तेऽखिलाः । धन्यान्निजान्मन्यमाना जगदुश्चेति सम्मताः
tattapodarśanārthaṃ hi samājagmuśca te'khilāḥ | dhanyānnijānmanyamānā jagaduśceti sammatāḥ
Indeed, all of them assembled there to behold that austerity (tapas). Deeming their own people blessed, they proclaimed to the world—firmly convinced—that it was truly so.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Depicts ‘darśana’ of tapas as spiritually meritorious—analogous to tīrtha-yātrā and darśana of liṅga/saints; encourages satsanga and witnessing exemplary dharma.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse highlights the Shaiva principle that darśana of genuine tapas (austerity undertaken for Shiva) inspires faith and purifies the mind; those who witness and honor such discipline become inwardly uplifted and spread its sanctity to others.
In the Shiva Purana, reverence for tapas is part of Saguna Shiva-bhakti: devotees seek holy darśana, gain śraddhā, and then turn that inspiration into concrete worship—often expressed through Linga-pūjā, mantra-japa, and disciplined living aligned with Shiva.
A practical takeaway is to seek sat-saṅga and holy darśana, then adopt a steady sādhana such as Panchākṣarī japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with simple self-restraint; if following Purāṇic practice, support it with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as aids to remembrance.
