पितृतनया ऊचुः । मुनिवर्य्य दयासिन्धो प्रसन्नो भव चाधुना । त्वत्प्रणामं वयं मूढाः कुर्महे स्म न भावतः
pitṛtanayā ūcuḥ | munivaryya dayāsindho prasanno bhava cādhunā | tvatpraṇāmaṃ vayaṃ mūḍhāḥ kurmahe sma na bhāvataḥ
The daughters of the Pitṛs said: “O best of sages, ocean of compassion, be gracious to us now. Deluded as we were, we offered you salutations, yet not with true inner feeling and understanding.”
Pitṛtanayās (daughters of the Pitṛs)
Tattva Level: pashu
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
It teaches that outer reverence without inner bhāva is incomplete; humility and sincere repentance open the way for grace, aligning with Shaiva Siddhanta emphasis on Śiva’s anugraha (divine favor).
Linga-worship and all Saguna forms are meant to awaken inner devotion; this verse underscores that gestures like praṇāma become spiritually fruitful when performed with heartfelt awareness of the divine presence.
Practice praṇāma and japa with bhāva—pause, recollect the deity/guru with reverence, and then offer salutations; this same inner sincerity is to be carried into mantra-japa (e.g., Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and daily worship.
