शिवस्य तपोऽनुष्ठानम् — Śiva’s Austerity and Meditation at Himavat
Gaṅgā-Region
नमस्ते देवदेवेश योगिरूपधराय च । निर्गुणाय नमस्तुभ्यं सगुणाय विहारिणे
namaste devadeveśa yogirūpadharāya ca | nirguṇāya namastubhyaṃ saguṇāya vihāriṇe
Salutations to You, O Lord of lords, who assume the form of the supreme Yogi. Salutations to You as Nirguṇa—beyond all qualities—and also to You as Saguṇa, who freely sports and moves within the manifest world.
Parvati
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
It affirms Shiva as both transcendent (Nirguṇa, beyond the three guṇas and mental constructs) and immanent (Saguṇa, graciously accessible through form), teaching that devotion and realization meet in the one Pati who liberates the bound soul.
The verse legitimizes Saguṇa worship—such as Śiva-liṅga pūjā—as a true approach to the same Supreme who is Nirguṇa; the manifest form becomes a compassionate support for bhakti and concentration, leading toward knowledge of Shiva’s beyond-attributes nature.
Meditate on Shiva as Yogirūpa (inner stillness, dhyāna) while performing simple liṅga-upacāras—offering water, bilva leaves, and repeating the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—contemplating Him as both Nirguṇa and Saguṇa.
