निर्ममो निरहंकारो निर्मोहो निरुपद्रवः । दर्पहा दर्पदो दृप्तः सर्वार्थपरिवर्त्तकः
nirmamo nirahaṃkāro nirmoho nirupadravaḥ | darpahā darpado dṛptaḥ sarvārthaparivarttakaḥ
He is free from possessiveness and ego, free from delusion and untouched by disturbance. He destroys pride and bestows true dignity; radiant with power, He turns all aims and outcomes according to His will.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga narrative; the verse is doctrinal/ethical, describing Śiva’s nirahaṃkāra nature and his governance over outcomes—key for understanding grace and the removal of āṇava/māyīya bonds.
Significance: General fruit: contemplation of these guṇas supports vairāgya and surrender, aligning the paśu with Pati’s will and opening to anugraha.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
The verse presents Shiva as Pati—the supreme Lord beyond ego and delusion—who removes the devotee’s pride and inner disturbance, thereby guiding the soul toward purification and liberation.
In Jyotirlinga worship, the Linga is Saguna support for realizing Shiva’s Nirguna qualities described here—freedom from ego and delusion—so the devotee’s pride is dissolved and life’s aims are redirected toward dharma and moksha.
Meditate on Shiva while repeating the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with humility; offer abhiṣeka to the Jyotirlinga and cultivate inner renunciation of “mine” (mama) and “I” (aham) as the practical takeaway.
