Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Jyotirlinga: Nāgeśvara
Sthala Purana: This verse states the phalaśruti: daily śravaṇa of the Nāgeśvara-udbhava (manifestation narrative) grants desired aims and destroys mahāpātakas, framing the Jyotirliṅga’s appearance as a grace-bestowing revelation accessible through hearing.
Significance: Śravaṇa and smaraṇa of the Jyotirliṅga’s udbhava is said to confer iṣṭa-siddhi (fulfillment of aims) and pāpa-kṣaya, emphasizing bhakti as a means to loosen pāśa (bondage).
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It teaches that śravaṇa (devotional listening) to the Jyotirlinga-mahātmyas—here, Nāgeśvara’s manifestation—purifies the heart, destroys grave karmic demerit, and grants both worldly aims and spiritual upliftment under Shiva’s grace.
Nāgeśvara is Shiva worshipped as the Jyotirlinga (Saguna manifestation accessible to devotees). The verse affirms that engaging with the Linga’s sacred narrative through reverent hearing is itself an act of worship that draws Shiva’s anugraha (grace).
Daily devotional hearing/recitation of the Nāgeśvara Jyotirlinga chapter (nitya-śravaṇa), ideally alongside japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and simple Linga-upacāras (water offering, bilva leaves) as capacity permits.
