Sage Gautama

Tattva Level: pashu

Shiva Form: Sadāśiva

Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga account; the verse is a classic prāyaścitta-seeking petition: the bound soul requests instruction so that pāpa may ‘depart,’ anticipating a grace-mediated remedy.

Role: teaching

FAQs

It expresses humility and surrender: the seeker admits fault and asks for the right means so that impurity (pāpa) may be removed—opening the way for Shiva’s grace and inner purification.

In the Kotirudrasaṃhitā context of Jyotirliṅga devotion, the verse frames worship as a remedial path: by following the prescribed Shaiva discipline and approaching Shiva (Saguna) with repentance, one becomes fit for purification and blessing.

The verse implies undertaking instructed prāyaścitta and Shaiva worship; a practical takeaway is to follow the teacher’s guidance with japa (especially the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) alongside disciplined conduct.
